The Tim Allen comedy will return for a second season.
April 3, 2025
ABC announced today that Shifting Gears has been renewed for Season 2. The news comes two weeks after the comedy wrapped its 10-episode freshman run. Fans will surely be pleased, as the show's March 19 finale ended with a cliffhanger.
The half-hour series stars Tim Allen as Matt, a stubborn widower who owns a classic car restoration shop in his town. Kat Dennings plays his estranged daughter Riley, who moves into his house with her two children, allowing them to finally reconnect and try to repair their fractured relationship.

Like others here have said, this show has been a slow start that got better. After the first episode I nearly stopped watching. But they softened the Tim Allen character and developed the other characters. The kids have gained experience as actors and are a lot better.
I don't know that it will ever reach the heights of "Home Improvement" or even "Last Man Standing" but these days the competition on broadcast TV is pretty dismal.

This show is about a snowflake melting down that other "people" exist. It was made for snowflakes who are afraid that other "people" exist. It's not in the slightest bit funny. That's right I'm not afraid to stand up to it.

This show is terrible. if you like it. YOU are the reason television in the US sucks so much.

The only new sitcom I added in 3 years, slow to start but really good.
ABC finally wising up to letting a show build its audience and also keep a show with substance.

Good job Tim.

I actually liked this show despite its conservative bend, which I found to be subtle. Another think I liked is that it did not rely on coarse language or sex jokes to find laughs unlike some other sitcoms. As long as the writers don't shove politics in their viewers' collective faces, "Shifting Gears" should stick around for a bit.

I wanted to like the show considering the actors' reputations that I love. But the banters feel forced and unnatural and therefore awkward.

Great News! I was slow to warm up to it but now I love this show!
I hope it gets many more seasons. Great diversity and patriotic show!

Awful Decision by ABC. It has shows that are way better. It shouldn't be promoting this when it could be getting more shows like Abbot Elementary. This show is so unamerican. They should have more reflection of the melting pot. Less shows that are old fashioned and out of date. Soon ABC will start to reflect the views of the country’s infectors not its protectors. Wake up ABC. This show is terrible.

It was a slow start for me and I thought it would have been canceled. It's "ok" not must see TV.
