The Tim Allen comedy will return in 2026-2027.
April 30, 2026
ABC announced today that Shifting Gears has been renewed for a third season. The news comes three months after the show wrapped its 13-episode sophomore run, which continued its strong performance as the network's most watched linear comedy.
The half-hour series stars Tim Allen as Matt, a stubborn widower who owns a classic car restoration shop in his town. Kat Dennings plays his estranged daughter Riley, who moves into his house with her two children, allowing them to finally reconnect and try to repair their fractured relationship.

Dennings is unwatchable. Therefore, the show is unwatchable.

Did not see this coming I was sure it would get the ax. Because I like Elfman I will watch again.

Ill watch it simply because i really dont have much else to watch these days, and i am a car guy so lots of eye candy. I love Dennings as Darcy in the MCU, but really cant stand her here - she feels out of place. I cant help but feel Mitchell and Elfman are the true standouts of the series. Allen is playing the same character since the 90s, and Scotts character is to one-dimensional (so far) to really expand anywhere.

Not a fan, but my roommate excited, but what about R.J Decker, I totally fell in love with it. ABC better no axe it!
