The comedy won't return for a second season.
April 22, 2025
It is being reported that Poppa's House has been cancelled by CBS after one season. The news comes ahead of next Monday's freshman finale. While its ratings were lower than other comedies on the network, the show garnered enough viewers to earn it an order for five extra episodes last November.
The series stars Damon Wayans as legendary talk radio host and happily divorced Poppa, who has his point of view challenged at work when a new female co-host is hired, and at home where he finds himself still parenting his adult son, played by his real-life son Damon Wayans Jr, who is a brilliant dreamer trying to pursue his passion while being a responsible father and husband.

The kids were the only fun part of the whole show.
Watching the younger Wayans act like female every episode was completely stupid and killed the entire thing.

This show was just not funny at all. It was really boring.
Damon Wayans Sr is a great comedian but his son is not funny.

Not surprising. What WAS surprising was that with two Damon Wayans in it, the show failed to be overly funny...especially since it was mostly written by him and other Wayans just like, "My Wife and Kids," which I found hilarious and even watched last year or the year before and still loved. I think that the idea behind it was great. Perhaps it was a lack of chemistry or maybe he ad-libbed a lot earlier and not so much here. Also, laugh tracks still annoy me, but I'll watch if I find the show funny enough. Perhaps it just didn't cross that threshold. I read most of the comments on here, and I agree with quite a few, but I don't understand the "if he had the same cache as Cedric the Entertainer, it wouldn't have been canceled. Cedric is amusing, and he's a great comedian and not a bad actor, either, but I can't think of "Barbershop" and "Soul Man" before "The Neighborhood" that were great characters. Damon, on the other hand, has had a boatload. I can still picture him in Beverly Hills Cop with the bananas, In Living Color in multiple roles, the aforementioned "My Wife and Kids" along with "Major Payne" "Last Boy Scout" "Bulletproof" "Mo' Money" on and on. If I had to pick one that would get the benefit of the doubt, I would say Damon Wayans would over Cedric.

welp.. series ended with a complete dud. The last episode was the worst of the entire series. If THAT was designed to be some sort fo "cliffhanger" for a (never to be seen) second season, it was horrible.

I love this show!! The interactions between the Wayans were terrific and the rest of the cast was good too, in my opinion. The show is funny and, imo, just as good as My Wife and Kids was. I wish CBS would reconsider and keep this show!! Why does CBS cancel all the good shows??!!??
