It is 1985, and David Meyers is an NYU student at a crossroads: He is conflicted about his major, confused about his relationship status, and uneasy about his parents' revelation that they might not have really loved each other.

When he gets hired as an assistant tennis pro at Red Oaks Country Club in suburban New Jersey, David gets all sorts of unsolicited life advice from an eclectic group of coworkers and club members.
