A standalone sequel to 'How I Met Your Mother'.
Set in the near future, Sophie tells her son the story of how she met his father. The tale goes back to the year 2021, where Sophie and her close group of friends are trying to figure out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and endless options.

In this day and age, it would have been a lot more interesting premise to have Barney end up married to a man and with a child. The series could explore his journey from a womanizing playboy to a realization of his gayness and his journey to find love and self-acceptance. All in a lighthearted, comedic manner, of course. But, they probably figured it's too close to Will and Grace, and they probably don't want to do anything risky that jeopardizes their HIMYM syndication revenue stream.
