I never read the book but this show should have been called "Dumb Things My Daughter Does." The main reason I started watching was because I am a Toni Collette fan but even she couldn't save this ridiculous series. So much is wrong with it that I don't even know where to start so I'll just say, don't bother. It's not worth it.
