A drama about how the Special Air Service (SAS) was formed during World War II.
David Stirling is a young officer who is hospitalized after a training exercise mishap. During the darkest days of World Ward II, he comes up with a radical plan that goes against all accepted rules of modern warfare, and recruits the toughest, brightest soldiers for a small undercover unit that will create mayhem behind enemy lines.
Based on Ben Macintyre's best-selling book of the same name.

Speaking of "World Ward II," (as described above), Hogan's Heroes was about the dark days of a WW II prison ward. Though I wouldn't necessarily describe those heroes as the toughest and brightest. Radical yes.
