A limited series following iconic lawmen and outlaws who have impacted history.
The series follows Bass Reeves, a federal peace officer of the Indian Territory based in Fort Smith, Arkansas, who rose from enslavement to law enforcement as the first Black U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi.
Despite arresting over 3000 outlaws during his career, the weight of the badge was heavy, and he wrestled with its moral and spiritual cost to his beloved family.

When it first came out, I only watched the first three episodes before it got lost among everything else. It looked to settle down into a kind of standard western where every episode was about capturing the bad guys and it just wasn't at the top of my list.
The other day I finally got around to watching the last five episodes and was shocked at the turn it took. This show was about as far from reality as the "Lone Ranger" series of the '50s — also derived from the Bass Reeves story — was. It was more about shoehorning the concerns of our time into a myth from the post Civil War era than it was about the real Bass Reeves. It's weird, nothing about this series was poorly done except the story. It's quite watchable, but in the end results in nothing more than a curiosity piece. I imagine decades from now film historians will look on this series as a kind of window into our times the same way we look at silents now.
I'd be very surprised if they decided to do more seasons.

Taylor Sheridan really knows how to make the Westerns with all the troubled souls and all of their struggles, just to survive, while adding depth to the characters as well.

I'm watching the S1 finale right now. It's, so far, been a good and interesting series. I don't know if there will be a S2, but I'll watch it if there is.
