Production has been shut down on the struggling new cop drama.
November 16, 2011
NBC has finally pulled the plug on its low-rated freshman drama Prime Suspect. The series has struggled to find an audience since premiering in September, and after it was left off the network's midseason schedule earlier this week, the writing was on the wall. Word is now that production has now been shut down completely.
NBC did its best to boost Prime Suspect's viewership, airing a large amount of promo spots for the show and even airing repeats in the prime time slot of cancelled series The Playboy Club. Ratings, however, did not improve.
It is being reported that all 13 episodes that were produced will air, although it is not known if NBC will keep the show in its current Thursday night time slot. Six new episodes remain in Prime Suspect's first and final season.

NBC really blew it this time! Prime Suspect was one of the best new shows and my husband and I really looked forward to watching it each week. I am disappointed that it has been cancelled and wish NBC would reconsider. It seems it was just getting established and they pulled it...bad call!

Prime Suspect was the best show since the original Law and Order. Good shows are based on good characters and good writing. This one had both. There must be a cable channel that's willing to pick it up. No wonder the best shows are moving to cable and premium channels. To get something everyone will watch, you have to produce the most banal kind of crap.

I don't get it! In my opinion, 'Prime Suspect' is, hands down, the best new police drama of this season. It has everything going for it . . .great acting led by Maria Bello; gritty, realistic plots; etc., etc., etc., and by reading other comments posted on this site, it sounds like I'm not the only one whose confused and disappointed. I guess I'll just have to go back to watching mediocre programs with senseless plots that I fall asleep halfway through.

I simply cannot believe this show has been cancelled - It was the finest cop drama in many a moon, for my money. Unbelievable chemistry amongst the ensemble cast, with Maria Bello a particular standout - I loved her character & portrayal. NBC barely let the program fall into place before pulling the plug - they are totally clueless!
Very disheartening - so much mindless pablum on the tube, and this wonderful new show gets pulled. Go figure.

Why did NBC elect to air this great program opposite two other shows with very strong followings and then cry that ratings were low??? Doesnt take a genius to see this flaw! National networks need to learn the art of late night reruns (a practice one can count on from cable) until the show has a CHANCE to be viewed by a large enough audience. This one would have caught on for sure!

I hate NBC for canceling my favorite show! No wonder their ratings are falling. I am guessing they have the "Real Hillbillies of Beverly Hills" reality show lined up to take its place.
There doesn't seem to be a place for a great cast, good writing and gritty drama on TV anymore.

I just spent Christmas break falling in love with this show watching all the back episodes. The initial promos for this new series were really lame & were no enticement to watch. I can't believe another intelligent show has been cancelled because not enough time was given to discover it. Network television has not yet clued in to the on-demand crowd & are jumping the gun on these decisions. Bring my show back!!

Excellent show, NBC seems to be clueless on what makes a good shpw, The chemistry of the actors were awesome There was one episode where it struck so close to home when I worked in the Feds that the writer could have been talking about me. That is how real the series stories were.

Cancelling Prime Suspect is the reason I don't like to get involved with new shows. The networks never give them time to gain an audience. Guess I'll watch cable reruns!
If Seinfeld hadn't been given time to gain an audience, it wouldn't be the hit it became.
