The new drama has received a 'back nine' pick-up from the network.
October 23, 2012
CBS announced today that freshman drama Vegas has been picked up for a full season. The network has ordered the back nine episodes to top up the count to 22.
The series, which follows a fourth-generation rancher tasked with restoring order to Las Vegas in the 1960s, has so far aired three episodes since premiering in late September.

CBS, canceling Vegas ,a big disappointment for me, all my friends & family.
A big mistake, it was growing viewers with each new episode.

For the life of me, I can't figure CBS now. First they cancel a series that has a long track record, good cast, and consistent positive reviews. But was that enough for CBS? Noooooo, they leave a series on that was steadily dropping in ratings and the content was getting more absurd. I am talking about the cancellation of CSI Miami in order to leave CSI New York which was already plummeting downward. What kind of business sense is that? I figure CBS must have a finger in the Stock Exchange. That's the only thing that makes sense here in this example. Make stupid decisions by moving schedules and air times around and then drop the higher grossing, higher rated and the much more entertaining for one that was dead two years earlier and still declining that it was stinking.
Then the next thing CBS did that made zero sense was the cancellation of Vegas. That show had interesting plots, candor, was gaining in popularity among viewership and the story lines were improving weekly. The show would have been another NCIS. But oh no, that would make sense, so lets cancel a good strong show, replace it with another reality show whose genre has been dead a long time. Vegas had one of the best casts on TV since Bonanza. The Characters were growing in to their own and the show as gaining in it's popularity. So Hey says, CBS, "We have a great show here in Vegas, good Cast, good viewership and it's one of the most entertaining shows on the Tube, so hey why don't we cancel it. Then we will be free to develop shows that are so bad, they couldn't sell a can of three year old cat Food.
CBS, you people have become idiots, once the best network for the best shows and best entertainment now lies somewhere near water polo and putt putt golf in viewers and ads.
Oh hey, I have a solution CBS, why don't we viewers cancel you. Or if you don't like that choice, why don't you cancel CSI, Blue Bloods, Elementay, Person of Interest, oh the granddaddy of them all, 60 minutes. Why not cancel mike and molly, two and a half men(which should have been dropped 2 years ago) Another one of those brilliant moves by CBS.
You wanna keep making money CBS Guys? Bring back Vega, sign them up for a 3 year contract, I guarantee you CBS, you viewers won't leave then, Vegas will continue to grow and become something par with NCIS. But hey, I don't have to watch you at all. I can at any time tune in to Barney and be as happy as I would be watching you do stupid things like cancelling great shows like Vegas and CSI Miami. Undoubtedly you must be getting your counsel from Michael Moore or you are channeling all the former CBS leadership who didn't have the sense to pour water out of their shoes before they put them on. In other words CBS, I had rather watch paint dry than to continue putting up with the idiotic decisions you are making now. Bring back Miami and Vegas and your market share will regain it's once upon a time of total dominance. As it stands right now NBC will with their dancing or talent or old reruns will take over again.
Oh did I say, why not go ahead and cancel CSI and NCIS? you might as well........................

TV, in general, has become total crap! So whose hair-brained idea was it to cancel a good series like Vegas.
We pay a small fortune for cable, only to have limited choices as to what we can or will watch. Who is benefitting from "reality" shows? The Sponsors? Fie on you!

agree with other comments, you replace a good TV series with trash, poorly written reality shows, as if really desperate, and out of touch with your viewers

We loved Vegas....the cast was great and the stories excellent.....Poor network decision to walk away from this series....What will replace it, another ridiculous reality series that we won't watch. I guess it's back to cable for this household!

We love Vegas, no matter what night or network it's on! I hope you change your mind, or someone else picks up this show! We looked forward to it as much as we used to look forward to 24! Great Show! The intrigue, love stories, great character development all stack up to a well rounded captivating story.
