The action series will end after nine episodes.
October 23, 2015
The Player's game is almost up. NBC has cut back on the show's freshman episode order, trimming its original 13 down to just nine. The move comes after a slow start for the action thriller, which has failed to draw significant viewership on Thursday nights at 10:00pm after its first five episodes.
For fans of The Player, the move unfortunately all-but-cancels the show. For now, four new episodes remain on the network's schedule, which has it signing off in mid-November.

I do not watch much television and this is why every time a show worth watching comes on it does not last long. This was a great show give it a chance. I will say this it is much better then it's replacement shades of blue. Then again they took person of interest off for limitless which totally sucks.

The Nielsen ratings are a scam. It's 2015. There has to be tech that can measure how many people are tuned into a show. Rather than the minuscule sized and sample Nielsen uses to extrapolate viewership. Tastes are something one can accurately assess via demographics.

REALLY, why can't you people have better test families watching shows. With all the good shows out there DVR's are how people watch now. This is one of me & my son's favorite shows. He's 17 and getting him to sit & watch a s tv show with "mom" is almost impossible. So now you all take it away!

Y is it when they finally get somethin good on tv they always take the good shows off the air and the ones that r trash or crapy shows they leave on for years? We end up having to watch them for ever till they finally get another time slot opened up and the ratings drop to nothing ?then they start putting the good shows back on ? So for my vote keep the player, blind spot and the # 1shows r the black list and Grimm all these need to b on for the winter shows and the spring line up thanks hope to c all these on this winter

This is an hour long action movie every week. Agree some of the dialogue is off a bit, and the director, in the beginning, couldn't direct a good gun fight if he had to, but the storyline is really good, and the characters are strong. Especially Snipes, who comes across on the TV screen as sharp and has a real presence. Wakefield has great appeal as does Winchester.
First year scripts are mostly not up to second year standards, or that's what I see in second level TV series. Not every show can be an Empire or a Big Bang Theory, and as far as second level shows go, this is a pretty good one. It's listed #2 in my Series Manager....that's how much I like it.
Too bad it's not going to last.....

This is sad. Not enough shows with legit hand to hand combat on.

Best show! They keep canceling the good ones and keep the garbage!

I knew this would be canned because 90% of Americans these days prefer camp TV with no action and violence they prefer reality and love storys

I cannot wait till this show gets cancelled. I stopped watching it after seeing a scene where the main character tells a man from a store to nod or was it blink a yes or no response so that he can honestly tell the drug cartel that he didn't tell him anything.
Who in the world writes a script like this? You really think some guy who scared for his life will nod or blink a response to a question so he can honestly tell the drug cartel that he didn't actually say anything?
Like the drug cartel is like thats ok we won't kill you for that.
After seeing that I stopped watching the show.
