Another season may still be in the cards.
May 16, 2016
Fox announced its schedule for the upcoming 2016-2017 season today, and notably absent was another edition of The X-Files, which was revived earlier this year after 13 years off the air. During the network's upfront press call, however, Fox TV Group executives offered fans some hope that the series may still return for another season.
Speaking on interest by the creator and cast, it was noted that Chris Carter, David Duchovny, and Gillian Anderson were all up for another installment. Speculation for a return time frame was even stated, with the 2017-2018 season tentatively eyed for new episodes.
For now, though, fans will have to patiently wait until a final decision is made. And that news might not come for some time. Stay tuned...

Think the X-Files was one of the best series ever written. Directing was taken to a new level for tv production, especially in the early years when the budget was a lot smaller. Character development over time was very good. Love the myth arcs mixed in with stand alone shows, some of which are true masterpices. Would love to see more of the original characters return in a new series run. Reestablish the syndicate/military/alien kabol and let Mulder and Sculley return to roles more similar to their original characters, just updated a little. Mystery, monsters, aliens and men in black are the recipe for the day.

Oh come on, my husband a and I love this show we have watched X Files from the beginning. It's sad that all they put on television today is reality TV show or people singing, come on X Files a classic, it's popcorn night with Scully and Molder. Well for me and my house where hoping X Files comes back to television.

Just hurry up and bring it back! We are ready for more seasons. Forget the nay sayers, you couldn't make them happy if you hung em with a new rope! The wild, sometimes off the wall stories are what appeals to the broader audience and I believe is sometimes necessary to keep everyone engaged! It's okay to take a different path once in a while. It can be fun and interesting!

What's with people that can't appreciate nothing good on TV no more? i was always a fan of the X-files, and was so happy to see it come back on TV. I think people today are so focused on reality crap, or simply just don't get it no more, The X- Files are a classic, and i loved to see the original actors coming back. The show was always a little on the low-budget side, and there were always monsters and aliens and conspiracy theories spun, but that's what makes the show and why it always had so many fans.I hope it will come back and just like it was from the beginning, people totally hate it or totally love it.

This show was terrible from the start and should've had new cast and not bring back old people.

I still think the original series was gasping for breath at the end, trying to throw in replacement characters, trying to put Band-Aids on plot gaps caused by Duchovny's absence.
Trying to resuscitate a dying mess of a show.
This latest revival was like a muscle reflex from a corpse. I'm glad they gave up.

This version jumped the Shark so badly the Shark ended up on the Moon. It was a horrible, politically correct attack show is all it was.

They tried too hard to return to the old monster-of-the-week format with the short revival season. Hopefully they will take a year off and write a solid 12+ episode arc. I'm still ready to love the X-Files again but the last season wasn't satisfying.
