The horror drama will return for a shortened run.
October 14, 2016
MTV announced today that Scream has been renewed for a third season. The news comes ahead of the show's upcoming 2-part Halloween special which airs on October 18. There are, however, some changes coming to the horror drama going forward.
The first is that Season 3 will only be six episodes in length, down from Season 1's 10 episodes and Season 2's 12 (not counting the aforementioned Halloween special). The shortened run could be a result of the show's falling viewership, which dipped by roughly half in 2016 compared to 2015.
Scream will also be changing showrunners again in Season 3 as it did in Season 2. Departing is the duo of Michael Gans and Richard Register, though who will be taking the reins going forward is yet to be determined.

People this show is good. So at least we get a final season or at least a shortened season. Which is better. But usually cutting a series to six eps is a sign of a final season. Like 'wharehouse 13" or others.

So glad this show was renewed time to binge the first two seasons over again. Wonder how well the show can do with the 6 episode mark, Hopefully MTV ends the show off with 4 seasons and i can deal with 6 episodes this season and next season

This is such good news! I hope they decide to wrap up the show in those six episodes and give it a proper goodbye! Not the best show out there but it is very fun! Hate to see it end on a cliffhanger
