No back order for the new CBS drama.
November 21, 2016
It is being reported that CBS has decided against ordering any additional episodes of freshman series Pure Genius. The decision comes as no real surprise, as the medical drama has made little impact in the ratings since its late October premiere, and currently ranks as the network's lowest-rated new series of the 2016-2017 season.
Pure Genius was created by Jason Katims, known for past audience favorites Friday Night Lights and Parenthood. This latest effort, which follows a tech billionaire who creates a cutting-edge hospital to treat the rarest of medical mysteries, unfortunately did not seem to catch on with viewers the same way as his more-successful shows have.
CBS currently plans to air all 13 originally-ordered episodes of Pure Genius, leaving nine still left in its run. However with it being the network's only new series not to receive any more episodes, there appears to be little hope of it getting a second season.

CBS could have moved it over to the CW, they've concluded quite a few shows on that network, so they should have space?

This show was like a breath of fresh air it kinda reminded me of the medical shows of the past with a modern day twist! CBS Needs to listen to the people who watch these show instead of the advertisers and let US decide what WE want to watch!

I really liked this show was cutting edge in a believable way, the crap on TV gets renewed and the good stuff gets cut, maybe that's why I watch so little TV?

Can't understand why networks don't understand there are a lot of people wanting quality programs providing hope, inspiration, values, and smart humor. This show like so many other quality shows cancelled prior hit on all those qualities.
Not sure why networks spend so much money spinning up new shows and don't wait to see if season two does better, or position shows needing better ratings to a better time slot vs placing them in later ones just to fail.
Do the right thing and bring the show back, please.

Why do networks base their renewals of great shows with great actors on metacritic or rotten tomatoes. i would really love the network or some other network to reconsider making another season. everyone i know that has seen this show loves it and like another poster stated "finally a show that is thought provoking and not based on sex and violence." i can get my scifi geek on as well as connect emotionally with the characters and situations, even if it is just for 45 min. It really is a disappointment to see everything on tv come down to money and ratings. why can't the corporate losers just make a show cause its a good show. (R.I.P.-Dresden Files, Firefly and any other great shows that never got a chance.) please don't go Pure Genius we love you.

Such a GREAT show - SUCH HEART! One of the best shows I've seen in a long time - I hope someone will save it!

Geez. This was a great show. Very human and touching. One that wasn't all about killing or politics or reality shows. Something you could just relax and watch and enjoy as entertainment! Big mistake CBS

Big mistake for CBS. One of the few shows that my family can watch on CBS-guess I'll stick with direct tv and netflicks.

I really hope that another network considers picking this show up. If even for one season, to wrap up the storyline about the man with the same disease that James had, & to wrap up the conflict with Dermot Mulroney & his wife about the FDA not approving the drug & whether she moves.
