The comedy ends after two seasons.
May 11, 2017
Word is out that ABC has cancelled The Real O'Neals after its recently-concluded second season. The comedy started out as a midseason entry last year, where it delivered modest ratings during its 13-episode run. The show was moved to the fall for Season 2 but could not deliver enough of an audience in its Tuesday night time slot.
The writing was on the wall when only three episodes were added to its sophomore run, which is short of what would typically amount to a full season for a fall series.
The Real O'Neals followed the O'Neal clan, a seemingly perfect family until shocking truths came to light, causing their lives to take an unexpected turn. But rather than let the revelations ruin their lives, the O'Neals started living more honestly - even it meant their lives got a little messy at times.

HUGE MISTAKE! This show was brilliant. To piggyback off a previous comment musical numbers don't signal death for a show. The Middle has been re-upped. With the surrealistic tone of this show the musical number fit in brilliantly and that kid needs to be on Broadway. I think it was also important to have a teenage gay lead on prime time apparently ABC disagrees

The writing on this show was quick and clever. The character development is what kept the show moving, in my opinion. Reqardless of premise, I always laughed out loud at least once each episode.
Maybe Hulu or Netflix will see the merit in this writing staff and cast...?

Horrible show. When a sitcom starts doing musical numbers, you KNOW it's close to cancellation... y'll should get ready.. given the last episode of The Middle.. it's getting the axe soon as well.

So sad to hear about this. I would have rather had American Housewife get the ax. Not cool ABC!!!

Another show that I'm sad to see go although I have to agree with Laura that the first season was really good but the second season definitely lacked. I shared the same religious upbringing and found that the most endearing aspect of the show and also the funniest, tongue and cheek that is.

This is a mistake. This was funny and had a chance of making a following if they didn't ax it. rip

This was my favorite of the Tuesday night ABC Comedy line up, like them all but I love the Mom on this one, the hole family was enjoyable but it was the lowest rated of the 4 so although still decent ratings, they were bound to cut the lowest 1 for something new and since it looks like they got rid of Friday night sitcoms all together there was no where to move it

Hallelujah... It lasted a season too long. I am all for gay rights but I could manage to see it flaunted all over TV and this one took the cake by making it the main theme of a sitcom. I, for one, will not miss this show a single bit.
