The new comedy will return next year.
November 29, 2017
Showtime announced today that SMILF has been renewed for Season 2. The comedy, which premiered earlier this month, is off to a solid start through its first four episodes. Not only have critics been praising the show, but viewers have taken to it as well.
In its premiere week, SMILF drew a bigger audience than any other new comedy on the cable network since 2012. Viewers are sticking around too, with this week's episode giving the show its best night total since Episode 1.
Based on Frankie Shaw's 2015 Sundance Film Festival short film of the same name, SMILF follows a single mother in her twenties searching for a happy work-life balance. Shaw plays Bridgette, whose desires for relationships and a career are at odds with with the realities of young motherhood. Shaw also writes and directs on the series.
Production on Season 2 is slated to begin in 2018, with a likely premiere later in the year. For now new episodes are airing Sunday nights, with the season finale scheduled for December 31.

Torry...I agree with you. It's an okay show, but I only watch SMILF due to Shameless being the lead in show and nothing on regular TV in that time slot.

Doesn't really seam to have much of a storyline. Not that it's bad. It's okay. But there's honestly zero reason to ever worry about missing an episode thus far. Each episode is a self-contained "day in the life" for the most part. They might want to address that if they want to get viewers hooked on it.

Late viewer here, caught up by streaming past episodes. A young woman portrayed realistically. I love this show, I'm now a live viewer. A real gem here. This is good news!

I like this show and I'm happy to read it's coming back. It's a great cast! Cheers to Rosie O'Donnell's portrayal of Tutu. I hope in future episodes we learn more about the family and friends Frankie Shaw's Bridgette surrounds herself with. All the characters seem to have a backstory just waiting to be explored.
