Syfy announced today that Happy! has been renewed for a second season. The new dramedy premiered late last year and has garnered fairly consistent viewership over the course of its eight-episode run. The good news comes just days before the season finale, which airs this Wednesday.
The series has been met with a warm reception from both viewers and critics, who have noted its accomplishments in translating the dark, gritty tone of the source material on which it is based.
Adapted from the graphic novel of the same name, Happy! stars Christopher Meloni as a corrupt ex-cop who now works as a hit man who spends his days intoxicated and adrift in a world of casual murder, meaningless sex, and betrayal. After a job goes awry, his life is forever altered by a small, relentlessly upbeat, imaginary blue winged horse, who is voiced by Patton Oswalt.

I don't know about a second season. The first season's core story of Meloni's character trying to save his kid redeemed it, though I have to admit at times I was as wide-eyed as Happy at some of the things that went on. Its dark pessimistic view of humanity was tempered by an equally dark sense of humor.
This is a hard-R rated series, definitely not for the kids. I can't remember any basic cable show that has gone this far. It would be easy for this one to go too far and fall off a cliff, but so far it was worth watching just to see Meloni's acting. Assuming the kid is saved, I don't know what will offset the darkness in Meloni's character in a second season.

Loved the books! Love the show! Gotta say, I was surprised they were able to bring it to life like they did. Amazing.

Great to hear at least one awesome show made the cut. Then again that just means they will cancel it next year.

Awsome, Great series. Way out there and funny. Better than the comic series but kept the humor of the comics. As long as they have new plot for next season and don't try to continue same plot.

Watched 3 eps.. just didn't see the appeal. Love Meloni's skills but the writing here is shit.. and I'm SO SICK of Patton Oswald's voice in everything.

Happy is a very wild and crazy show, with a seemingly limited plot - rescue the kid. I hope the writers know how to NOT write themselves into a corner, like those for the nuke sub series 'Last Resort' where they get msg. from an off channel, don't believe it, don't launch the missiles, beach the sub, then run out of supplies and people while the U.S. govt. must scuttle the sub with the wayward crew. End of series.

Finally a Network doesn't cancel a show that is awesome. Can't wait for next season.

Wild and isane, just like the comic book it came from!. Not for little kids at all but interesting and fun to watch.
