Racist tweets bring an end to comedy's biggest comeback.
May 29, 2018
Just two months after picking up Roseanne for an 11th season, ABC has reversed the move. The cancellation comes after show star Roseanne Barr took to Twitter with a series of racist and anti-semitic posts. The most offending being a now-deleted tweet calling adviser to former President Barack Obama, Valerie Jarrett, an offspring of the “Muslim Brotherhood & Planet of the Apes.”
The backlash that followed was immediate and intense, with numerous celebrities and pundits speaking out against her remarks. Barr subsequently apologized, calling the tweet a joke, but it was too late. The damage had been done.
Comedian Wanda Sykes was the first person involved with the show to make a move, announcing her departure from writing on Season 2 this morning. But that was just the beginning, as mere hours later, ABC Entertainment chief Channing Dungey announced that the network was cancelling the show due to her "abhorrent, repugnant" words that were "inconsistent with our values."
The decision was obviously not made lightly, as Roseanne's comeback was the biggest success story ever for a revived series. The show's Season 10 premiere in March surpassed all expectations by drawing a massive audience of 18 million viewers with an impressive 5.2 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic. Those numbers are almost unheard of nowadays, especially for broadcast comedies.
But now instead of going on another likely-lengthy run, Roseanne's revival ends after just nine episodes, with the now-series finale airing one week ago.

No you see my father doing what he’s supposed to do and me doing what I’m supposed to do as a father isn’t any races privilege... it’s responsibility. More people should try it, it would help your problems.
And as a matter of fact using my blinker every time I move is an OCD pet peeve of mine.
Also every cop always approaches the car from either side with their palms resting on their gun butts... might be a rule of theirs, maybe protocol, maybe they think it’s cool or intimidating, I’m not sure, but I’ve seen it 100% of the time. It’s called looking out for number 1, they have families that want them home at the end of the shift. And I’ve always been asked if the car I’m driving is mine.
Like I said, some people’s reputations precede them.
You say a peaceful but highly visible protest would be worth considering... and supporting?... yeah let me know when they have a peaceful one in which they don’t burn down there neighborhood
You like to drive fast, huh? I imagine that you don't always signal when you change lanes. How often have you been stopped for that? If you are black that would be pretty much every time a cop saw you do it. Suppose before you even get the chance to ask to open your glove box, both cops approach the car from either side with their palms resting on their gun butts. The cop on the driver's side in a no-nonsense tone of voice asks if you stole the car. Then he TELLS you to throw out your guns and drugs. And then has you out of the car and searched before sitting you on the curb while he goes through your glove box and trunk by himself. Then depending on how much he has violated your rights, he may or may not write the ticket.
Imagine EVERY TIME you get in your car, you are keenly aware that this is a likely event. The most minor traffic infraction could turn into a harrowing experience. Now imagine having that fear several times a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. Year after year.
Wouldn't you think that a peaceful but highly visible protest would be worth considering... and supporting?
Have you heard “your reputation precedes you”
I don’t feel bad for a “victim” who thinks they are above the law.
I have a sports car but I’d drive fast regardless of what I drive and I do get pulled over often... with my window down and hands on my steering wheel and I ask if I can reach into the glove box even after AUTHORITY asks for the paper work. I have a FATHER that taught me that.
Respect goes a long way pal.
I'm sure those "ghetto" kids are all taught from birth to always say "yes suh", "no suh". Or just save time and lie down on their stomachs with their hands on their butts, palms up.
It's the cops that need the teaching. I know a fair number of blacks from work, neighbors, and casual friends. I've had discussions with them about getting stopped by the police. I've been told that before the cops even ask for a license, they ask if the car is stolen or if there are drugs and guns in the car.
In the 46 years that I've been driving, I've never once been asked any of those questions. How about you? Now think about how you'd feel if you were constantly asked those questions but had to "act" ultra-submissive?
Did you see the recent story about the black guy who was stopped for no reason. Finally the cop said it was because of "vegetation" on the window. They were leaves from a tree. The cops yanked the guy from the car and searched him and the car. The cop's commander backed up the cop. Again, has this ever happened to you? You were dragged from your car because tree leaves were on it?
That isn't an uncommon incident. It only got reported because the man live-posted the video.
But you wonder if the "ghetto" is taught how to "act" correctly. Sad.
