The Marvel-based cable series will return in 2019.
June 1, 2018
FX announced today that Legion has been picked up for a third season. The good news comes with two episodes remaining in the superhero drama's sophomore run, which comes to a close on June 12.
Legion is one the latest Marvel Comics-based entries on television and was the first of its kind on a cable network, after other Marvel-based fare found success in recent years on both broadcast TV and Netflix. While its viewership took a hit in Season 2, the show continued to garner widespread critical acclaim for its unique take on the genre.
The series follows a man diagnosed with schizophrenia who comes to realize that the voices he hears and the visions he sees are the result of him actually being a mutant. Now working with a team of specialists, he is able to explore an extraordinary new world of possibilities.
Look for Season 3 of Legion in 2019.

I can't believe this got renewed. I still have the last 2 episodes on my DVR to struggle through. Season 2 has been a runaround for me in many of the episodes and difficult to understand. I will not watch Season 3 and may not finish the last 2 because I really can't stand this show any more. I would have preferred they renewed Falling Waters which was cancelled and cancel this show but they renew the crap and cancel the good shows. After reading the reviews I am going to delete those episodes because I can't suffer through any more of this show. Goodbye!!!

I am truly surprised by this renewal. Season 1 was phenomenal! Season 2 has been complete crap with stories that are not tying together and with little to no plot (they're trying to find a body....whoop di do!). I will give season 3 one chance before I pull the plug on the slow. So completely painful getting through season 2.

I'm actually surprised by the renewal news. Ratings haven't been great. I loved the first season but admit I finally gave up on season 2 and stopped watching so I doubt I'd watch another season. And it's not because I didn't get it (insert eye roll here)....it's just that I didn't care anymore. I felt this season tried too hard and it suffered for it.

Frankly, I am surprised this got renewed considering what it’s ratings numbers have been for Season 2. Regardless, I haven’t really understood Season 2 at all and am confused far too much when I watch an episode. I couldn’t wait for each new episode in Season 1 but I keep the show on now in the background and do other things and am just looking forward to this season being over. I hope that next season is a little more straight forward like Season 1 was.

This show is hard to watch sometimes. But it is a deep show and I am surprised it's still on. It is unlike anything on tv. If you miss a episode forget about knowing what is going on. Still I applaud the fx network for sticking with this highly unusual show.

Great news!
If you like shows like Preacher or Happy! where the stories are strange to bizarre then you might like this. Not as violent as those shows. At least that's my observation.
It is a surprise it got picked up since many won't have the time to fully engage.
I do like Legion more than Preacher and did give up on Happy! when the pvr missed an episode and I was far behind on other shows.
This is a show I put down the cell and tablet to pay attention to.
I look forward to seeing season 3.

@101 - thanks for the followup and explanations! After I watched the opener, I wavered back and forth whether to continue with it. I finally decided not to gamble on crazy (given competition for time). Sounds like I should have.

@ Steve S.
I Have to agree with you with the effects in the first episode, it took me a few episodes to fully get into the show but do think it is well worth pushing through the first episode. The LSD trip effects do make a lot of sense story wise and the story it self has some great twists and turns. One of the best shows on TV. No BS Drama BS like most shows/procedural TV on the air/net.
That's my $0.2.
P.S. show does have writing has some nuance with several deeper meanings but to disagree with the other @Steve you don't really have to be "smart" to get the face value story and content, you will most likely miss the hidden details/messages but its only a show so who gives a shit. Just enjoy it for what it is. A show about a Crazy(in both ways) Over Powered Mutant.

I don’t have smarts (per @Steve) and I didn’t “get it.” Or perhaps it was all too clear. I watched the first episode which was an LSD trip for the screen. It was all special effects and craziness, a crazy spaced-out lad, and that tipped the scale for me to not pursue it. It was something to see and might have been good, but the trip weighed more annoying than exciting.
