The long-running comedy will say good-bye next spring.

CBS announced today that The Big Bang Theory will come to an end after its upcoming 12th season. The news will see the veteran series sign off next May as one of the most-successful prime time comedies of all time.
Since its premiere in 2007, The Big Bang Theory has been winning over audiences and garnering critical acclaim like few other comedies have. More viewers have tuned into the show since 2010 than any other comedy on television, and it consistently leads the ratings among many key demographics.
By the time its all over, the show will have aired a total of 279 episodes and rank as the longest-running multi-camera sitcom in TV history. It also picked up dozens of awards over the years from the likes of The Emmys, The Golden Globes, The People's Choice Awards, and many others.
A joint statement was released from WBTV, CBS, and Chuck Lorre Productions stating, "We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of The Big Bang Theory during the past twelve seasons. We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show's success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close."

Contrary to all the haters out there the Big Bang Theory has remained well written and fresh for the last 11 seasons. The series has been one of the most successful sit-coms of all time. And that is due not only to the fine ensemble cast but also to the amazing guest appearances of quality actors. I'm looking forward to the final season when all the storylines can be wrapped up and we can say good-bye to all the characters we have watched grow.

A great run for a great show. CBS will certainly have a big hole to fill in their schedule for the 2019-20 season once "Big Bang" ends. I think "Young Sheldon" will do well as a spinoff of the parent show. Hopefully, "Simpsons" and "Family Guy" will be among the next shows to call it quits.

I love TBBT, but it is time to end this show! Great cast although I think they will have trouble finding work (individually) once the series ends. They haven't really branched out to play other characters so we will always relate to them as their BB characters. I wish ABC would cancel Grey's Anatomy next. It also has run it course.

Disregard my remark about South Africa, I don't want to sound ignorant like the clown in DC. Whites are not "killed in South Africa" anymore than anywhere else where human beings are killed. The last time I checked, Christopher Lee Watts lives in Colorado.

I have adored this show, which means a lot coming from a person that generally hates comedies and laugh tracks. Maybe it helps to have a science background lol.
I wound up interested in this show thanks to the Young Sheldon series (which I also like as does my son who identifies with Sheldon in many ways) and wound up watching the entire series during the last six months. Sheldon is definitely my favorite and he makes this show what it is. I love almost all the characters with the exception of Raj who just doesn't seem realistic at all, but he is still okay overall.
I'll be sad to see it end after this upcoming season but imagine the network is going to make an extra effort to end this show on an appropriate note.

Actually decided to quit this show after this season buy if next is the last will probably watch it in the background to fulfill my completion angst. Show is far from quality TV but just became a habit for last several years, something to have on when eating.
Hopefully they can write a decent last season to its former mediocrity. Hooray for TV Background Noise.

Now Kaley Cuoco is going to find out she was never worth $1.1mil an episode and was grossly overpaid.
