The long-running comedy will say good-bye next spring.
August 22, 2018
CBS announced today that The Big Bang Theory will come to an end after its upcoming 12th season. The news will see the veteran series sign off next May as one of the most-successful prime time comedies of all time.
Since its premiere in 2007, The Big Bang Theory has been winning over audiences and garnering critical acclaim like few other comedies have. More viewers have tuned into the show since 2010 than any other comedy on television, and it consistently leads the ratings among many key demographics.
By the time its all over, the show will have aired a total of 279 episodes and rank as the longest-running multi-camera sitcom in TV history. It also picked up dozens of awards over the years from the likes of The Emmys, The Golden Globes, The People's Choice Awards, and many others.
A joint statement was released from WBTV, CBS, and Chuck Lorre Productions stating, "We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of The Big Bang Theory during the past twelve seasons. We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show's success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close."
Series co-creator Bill Prady also posted the following note on Twitter:

I will miss this one, I just love this show, it is my all time favorite. I am sad to see it go, although it is better it goes on a schedule so they can do the entire season properly.
I truly hope they do it properly lol...

This show needed to end. Loved it originally but it got stale. And every single one of them pairing off like a smarter version of Friends is killing it for me. Glad it is at least getting an ending.

omg, it ended because the cast was tired of doing it mainly. Well at least the main actors. You can't have a show without the Sheldon character. The actors are great but even if they want to do this show it would not succeed without him. We don't know if the Conners, can succeed without Rossane. But this show Cannot make it. This statement about white people is not factual , most tv shows and movies have white leads in them. This does not mean that there isn't bias against whites on some college campuses etc though. But unless you live in south Africa where they kill whites , You are not being persecuted and Hollywood is not doing it either.

Not sure what else they can do. It's definitely been on longer than expected. Have watched since the beginning but I'm ready to see it wrap.

My husband and I have enjoyed every episode of this show, recorded and rewatched them. It is the only sit com we both enjoy. I will be sad to see it go, but I agree with ending it in its prime rather than wait for it to die a slow and painful death. 12 years is a great run! The actors involved will have no trouble finding more work, I am sure. And there will always be reruns!

Had a good run, honestly if you can even get past four seasons that's a miracle in itself.

Glad the network has given TBBT a opportunity for a proper ending, they definitely deserve it. R.I.P. TBBT!
