The veteran crime drama will say good-bye in 2019.
December 17, 2018
CBS announced today that Elementary will close out its run after its already-ordered seventh season. The news comes just days after the long-running crime procedural filmed the final scene of its now-series finale.
Many saw the move coming, as the drama - at over 140 episodes - has recently felt like it was nearing the end of the road creatively. Its sixth season was also the first not to air in-season, instead being moved to the network's mid-season schedule where it aired from April through September.
Elementary stars Jonny Lee Miller as famed British detective Sherlock Holmes, who takes residence in New York in order to deal with his addiction issues. While there, he teams with Dr. Joan Watson and the two work as police consultants solving crimes around the city.
There is no time frame on when the show will return for its seventh and final 13-episode season, though some time in 2019 appears likely.

7 seasons? This is why network television is dying. 90% of the episodes were created to pad the seasons. If they wanted this show to be great (like Sherlock) they would have given it 8 episodes a season and 5 seasons at most. Every time I turned this on the episode was useless to the overall series.

I thought the season 6 finale was great and actually could have served as a very good series finale. But I will enjoy the last 13 episodes.

Endgame--Holmes gets Moriarity and he either dies or goes back to Fiona. Holmes is successful in adopting a child and heads back to NYC to resuming her practice. Marcus and the Captian already history now. Enjoyed it but this last season was definitely slowing down.

One of the best TV shows ever. I am glad at least we got to watch 7 seasons of it. These TV shows require a lot of efforts, creativity, and attention to details. Thanks to the entire cast and writers for this incredible work.

I'm going to miss this show so much. It was one of my favorites. Jonny Lee Miller is the bomb, and I can't wait to see what he will do next. Ugh, man I'm going to miss it.

I am not saddened by this news because I always thought "Elementary" was redundant to the Sherlock Holmes adaptations that were produced for British TV and aired stateside on PBS. I recommend to anyone reading this post to watch the latest "Sherlock" with Benedict Cumberbatch as the title character and Martin Freeman as Watson.

I come not to mourn the ending of Sherlock, but to praise it for its success. The series has always been on the bubble with ratings and yet was wisely kept going for season after season on faith of quality and viewer loyalty; now it's officially going to be able to end on its own terms and not have to worry with every season finale that it would not be able to conclude. As much as I'd be happy to watch season after season, I like it when a show can go out with a proper ending, and I look forward to a resonant final season.

Watson never smiled. And no one ever questioned their names. Stretches credulity. As with such shows the stories became formulaic and borderline unbelievable. It wasn't a horrible show but it was time to end it.

Elementary is one of the best shows on tv. I love the chemistry of Sherlock and Joan. They are perfect together.
CBS sucks. They have one decent show left - Blue Bloods.
CBS will do some remake like Sanford and Sons but they will be Asian this time. (And I have nothing against Asians).

We are so sad to see this show end - Johnny Lee and Lucy had great chemistry together - We watched every episode and my husband liked it very much and he doesn't admit to liking anything !! Another poor decision by CBS !!
