TBS announced today that The Last O.G. has been picked up for a third season. The good news comes seven episodes into the comedy's sophomore run, which has continued to be a solid performer for the cable network.
The series had a strong debut in 2018, with its first episode ranking as TBS' biggest comedy premiere in three years. Its first three episodes alone found a multiplatform audience of almost 25 million viewers, and it went on to be the #1 cable comedy in 2018. Season 2 has continued that trend, once again ranking as cable's top comedy.
The Last O.G. marked Tracy Morgan's first role as a television series regular since his 2014 car accident that left him severely injured. He stars in the show as an ex-con named Tray, who is shocked at the changes the world has gone through since he was released on good behavior. Not only has his Brooklyn neighborhood been gentrified, but his former girlfriend, played by Tiffany Haddish, is now married to a successful man who is helping to raise the twins he never knew existed. Not having any money to support himself or his children, Tray reverts to the skills he picked up while incarcerated in order to make ends meet while trying to acclimate to his new reality.
Look for Season 3 of The Last O.G. to premiere in early-to-mid 2020.

Seems like you might be in the minority here - but hopefully that's answers your question to 'why'.
