The new crime drama earns nine more episodes.
October 7, 2019
Fox announced today that Prodigal Son has been topped up with nine additional episodes, making it the first new show of the fall to earn a full-season pickup. The good news comes just two episodes into the drama's freshman run, which is off to a solid start in the ratings.
Tom Payne stars in the series as Malcolm Bright, a criminal psychologist with a special gift of knowing how the minds of killers work. This is because in the 1990s, his dad was a notorious serial killer known as "The Surgeon." He uses his ability to help the NYPD solve crimes and stop killers, all while dealing with his manipulative mother, played by Bellamy Young, and homicidal father, played by Michael Sheen, who is still looking to bond with his prodigal son.

Only thing that I can think of that may be thinking of is Elementary s04e08.But the son of the serial killer doesn't turn up as a cop/detective to solve murders.

I watched the first episode and promptly canceled it. I have no interest in anything presented.

Watched two episodes. Like it so far. Glad it didn't get a quick axe. @Love_Texas it resembles 'Silence of the Lambs' in a way, but can't think of a show with this premise.

I am certain this entire premise (Prodigal Son) was part of a show / an episode / or series arc of something like Law & Order, The Mentalist, or Criminal Minds or something similar to that? Does anyone remember this premise from another show? Not too long ago? I am almost certain of it. Any help?
