No Season 2 for the Suits spin-off.
November 1, 2019
It is being reported that Pearson has been cancelled by USA Network after one season. The sad news comes less than two months after the legal drama's run ended, with its Septmber 18 freshman finale now acting as its series ender. While reviews of the show generally leaned towards the positive, it ultimately failed to attract a sizeable audience for the cable network.
A spin-off of Suits, the series stars Gina Torres as powerhouse lawyer Jessica Pearson, who has recently been disbarred and is learning to adjust to a big change in her life as she moves into the dirty Chicago politics scene. After being named as Mayor Bobby Novak's fixer, Jessica becomes entangled in a dangerous new world where the consequences for every action are very real. As she navigates this new territory, her desire to win conflicts with her nature to do what is right.

They spinned off the wrong character. Louis Litt was the one they should have given a show to, although given the way "Suits" ended, it would just have been an extension of "Suits." Far better, they should have had Louis leave his lawyer job and become like a Mr. Mom in a new series. It would have been hilarious watching him raise his child.

I'm not too broken up, this show just didn't hit many right notes, bore no resemblance to real Chicago Politics (other than casting a guy that looked like Rahm), or even reality at times. Filmed in LA except establishing shots. So much time spent on Jessica's relationship with her rude, ungrateful cousin, I'd have told her to take a hike.
Other than the lovely Isabel Arraiza I won't miss it. I wish "Boss" wasn't cancelled by Starz several years ago, that was a much better look at Chi politics.

A doppelganger would suffice to play Rachel. A beauty queen or a look-alike actress like Tiffany Smith (who is playing Meghan in a Lifetime movie - I forget who they got for Hairy).
Hey - I am just offering on the cheap, late advice on how Pearson could have gotten a few more eyes. I think maybe most here don’t seem to have given it much of a chance.

P.S. Not every show is some left wing slap in the face to your values. I've watched shows with right wing characters and I take them as just that....fictional characters. People need to stop viewing everything as a direct personal attack.

The problem wasn't Jessica, the problem was the mayor was played by a weak actor and was a weak character, story beats were telegraphed and cliched, and the fictional Chicago bore even less resemblance to the real thing than the Dick Wolf Chicago PD shows. What didn't work was Gina Torres' character practically being a supporting character in her own show. I didn't care about any of the supporting characters. Not even a little. Maybe the niece. Barely.

@Steve S.
So you think Meghan Markle who left Suits to marry the prince would have been a good fit for the show? Good pick. And if you choose any of the rest than you might have well have called it Suits 2. It just shouldn't have been made period.

Jessica, while a significant character on Suits, was a borderline minor player so I figured she wouldnt pull a large enough amount of Suit’s watchers and therefore Pearson depended on attracting a good number of brand new watchers. It may have required a fair amount of luck even if it got off to a good start. Yep, had it drafted in Harvey, Louis, Mike, or Rachel, from the start, it might have been a different show. Just maybe I would have watched :)

Called it in the show's message board on this site. Why would anyone want to want to watch a show about a self empowered African American woman talking down to people for an hour? Maybe it was charming to some when she did it as a supporting character, but as a lead? Failure was destined.
