No Season 2 for the crime drama.
April 3, 2020
Word is out this evening that Fox has cancelled Deputy after just one season. The sad news comes eight days after the western crime procedural wrapped its 13-episode freshman run, which ended up ranking as one of the network's lowest-rated dramas of the season.
The series starred Stephen Dorff as Bill Hollister, a fifth-generation lawman in Los Angeles, who is thrust into the Sheriff's job after the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department loses its elected Sheriff. While not exactly the job he wanted due to the politics involved, he soon learns that following his instincts to pursue justice at all costs is only skill required to get the job done.

Initially watched it because of Stephen Dorff, stuck around because I saw a lot of similarities with Longmire (besides both driving old Broncos!). It was really one of the few shows I watched from OTA channels. I knew it was going to lose viewers though when they showed him standing up for the un-documented poor.

The premier episode had him fighting with ICE and I immediately knew this would be that "topical" show to cater to a particular audience, almost none of whom are active LE who can be entertained by shows like The Rookie or Chicago PD, which still tackle topical items without being so over the top "preachy"....

Sadly, many people are destroyed, lose their jobs, lose their companies if they don’t go along with liberal and social engineering views. Many people remain silent as a means of survival, so yes people are often labeled based on their political party, even if it’s Independent. Often, one’s choices on TV, especially live TV, seem to be reduced to the least bad. So many people don’t watch much TV. Who could argue that there are hundred of better shows that people would watch, that arent being made. The audience has been whittled down to where even crap is popular (I didn’t The Deputy so I am not referring to it). Networks indeed live or die by the money they make, so it’s the ultimate incentive. However, there is lot of difference between short term incentive and long term incentive. Short term dollars too often win out, and this goes hand in hand with targeting segments of the population at the expense of quality and integrity, which is much the same as predominately targeting only those who share your views. So to say that what we got is what most people want is dead wrong. Too much of TV is agenda driven, and yes it works in the short term. It is ridiculous to argue that agenda driven bias in content hasn’t become common. It is purposeful, steered by the perpetrators. We should not let poor thinking off the hook.

I knew this was canceled the day after the finale aired; Bex Taylor-Klaus announced it on her Twitter. Stephen Dorff is an amazing, powerful actor. Bex Taylor-Klaus is amazing (many likely disagree as she does tend towards queer roles). I was satisfied with the ending; there were places to go, but everything from this season was wrapped up. FOX typically doesn't renew many midseason shows so I'm not shocked since 9-1-1 Lonestar was a surefire renewal.

Actually Kim: half the country is American and the other half is American. The founders revolted so that we did not half to follow just one leader. We in America do not like to label people by just "political party."
Do not confuse tstory elements like plot, premise, and story line with "an agenda." The mythical Hollywood you speak of does not exist. The corporations which put out content are not one solid thing. They put out that which will give back the most. If patrons don't like the content and turn away (like they did with this show) the company's will not make more of it (like they did with this show). If they are making a lot of one type of show, logically it must be what people want. So if you think a lot of shows have an agenda then most patrons must want that.

THANK YOU FOR CANCELLING! I'm so sick of shows forgetting that their entertainment and putting on a political agenda. Half the population is republican and half is democrat. Deal with it hollywood!!! and go back to not showing bias in your shows!!

When you make a show that sole purpose is a liberal wet dream that other than making them drool over the message you push but suck as a show that's when you get canceled like this show did.

Awful choice by network executives. I personally am watching fewer and fewer shows on FOX. Once again very disappointed in A major network choices. It was a great new and fresh show .
