CBS announced today that MacGyver has been picked up for a fifth season. The action-adventure series has continued to be a decent performer for the network in its Friday night time slot.
An updated take on the 1980s classic, the series was a surprise success for the network when it premiered in 2016. Initial expectations were decidedly low after an early panning by critics, but viewers have continued to tune in, helping CBS solidify its time slot with consistency in total viewers and ratings.
Look for Season 5 of MacGyver to premiere as part of the 2020-2021 television season.

This season was really bad. He’s barely doing any “Macguyver”isms and the show is focused more on his family and love life than actual missions. Thought for sure it was going to be cancelled.

I love this show, also love Magnum P.I. Glad they were both renewed and hope Mac and Riley get together, also ship Magnum and Higgins

Is there some powerhouse behind this show keeping it on the air? How many cast changes can a show go through, still not find its way, and stay on the air? I'd love to know why George Eads left...
