The sci-fi drama will return in 2021.
July 14, 2020
Canal+ has announced that War of the Worlds will be returning for a second season. While there have been unofficial reports of a renewal in recent months, we now have confirmation that the acclaimed sci-fi drama will indeed be coming back for more.
Not to be confused with the 2019 BBC miniseries of the same name that was released around the same time, this version is a co-production between Fox Networks Group and France's Canal+. Its 8-episode first season aired on Epix in the US earlier this year and will likely return to the network for Season 2.
A reimagining of H.G. Wells' classic novel, War of the Worlds begins with astronomers in present-day Europe detecting a peculiar transmission from another galaxy. It's not long before intelligent extra-terrestrial life is descending on Earth and quickly wiping out most of mankind with devastating attacks, leaving only pockets of humanity in a deserted world. As the invaders hunt and kill the survivors, those alive are left asking who the attackers and what they really want.

I really WANTED to like this show. I gave it several episodes but my GOD was it boring. WAAAAY too much walking around and random talking and not enough action/aliens. Im VERY surprised it got renewed.

People staring into the distance in ominous silence interspersed with intense music.. Unexplained mysterious happenings. Noisy General Dynamics robot dogs sneaking up. Oh the Suspense! Kept waiting for the aliens (in the giant tripods?) to appear - maybe in season 2. But it will probably be more like: oh, wait, maybe there are no aliens and it's just some evil humans.

The "fairly sure" was meant to contrast the "ImNeverWrong" - guess I should have put quotes around it. I tire of absolute statements that have not actually been checked. I knew Canal+ is not Canadian, and made the assumption (perhaps incorrect) that "ImNeverWrong" was just another American thinking that all of Canada speaks French. Of course, the real answer is that Canal+ is from France - by not being definite, I hoped "ImNeverWrong" might look it up, and remember the experience for next time. It apparently worked for passenger and crazy_canuck. Maybe a few even discovered there is somewhere else that speaks French.

@crazy_canuck - yep, I checked this inner web thing BEFORE your 7/20 and found the identical answer. I tire of a "fairly sure" response passing as acceptable. ( yeh - this COVID thing is kinda pissin' me off )

Here we sit in front of the great interweb and yet we can't find the answer that Canal+ is a French premium television channel which is owned by Groupe Canal+ (Canal+) which is a French film and television studio and distributor :-) As for the show, it wasn't that exciting, I found it more like a Falling Skies knockoff but less entertaining.

Canal is a french film studio and producer org. Not a channel.

@Kahleb - "fairly sure..?" That doesn't help.

Meh. If they have a free preview and there's nothing better on.
It was somewhat watchable

Sorry "I'mNeverWrong", but Canal+ is not Canadian. Yes, some of Canada speaks French, but I'm fairly sure that Canal+ is based in France.

Interesting show with solid characters. I will watch season 2.
