No Season 2 for the Penny Dreadful follow-up.
August 21, 2020
It is being reported that Penny Dreadful: City of Angels has been cancelled by Showtime after only one season. The sad news comes just under two months following the drama's freshman finale. The series aired a total of 10 episodes and garnered generally positive reviews from critics.
Acting as a successor to 2014's Penny Dreadful, City of Angels followed Detective Tiago Vega and his partner, who become consumed by a brutal murder case that rocked Los Angeles in 1938. The city's rich history, including its traditions of Mexican-American folklore, the espionage actions of the Third Reich, and the rise of radio evangelism, all lead to Tiago and his family battling powerful forces that threaten to tear them apart.

i wanted to watch it but the first penny dreadful cancelation made me not trust this ones staying power. if the original couldn't make it the spin off had no chance. Too bad cause it looked interesting.

I am so disappointed that this show was canceled.It had a historical fiction backdrop with a cultural sci fi twist. Not all sci fi shows need to showcase the overused Frankenstein and Dracula monsters. This series featured "La Muerte" as a master of manipulation who played her forces to intensify the tensions between Mexican American and law enforcement/ political authorities. It was fiction, but much of it was based on real events that took place in Los Angeles during the 30's prior to the war. My parents lived in Los Angeles during that era and I can attest that many of the events were based on historical truths.

@Dave
Awww come on man! Halloween 3 is a cult classic. Was it good....not really but it's like an annoying song. If it's catchy it just gets in your head. Tell me that stupid commercial for the masks still doesn't come in your head from time to time.

First series was great, but this one stinks of political correctness. The current crop of hollyweird owners never learn no one wants this crap, except for a very small sampling of viewers and net bots. As LA now burns these "elites" run elsewhere to further plot more shows no one wants to watch. As soon as hollywood goes broke and disappears at the better.

This was the Halloween 3: Season of the Witch of badly named shows. It might have been received better had it not had expectations created by its title. And its casting. Nathan Lane? Really?

I knew this would stink. Hollyweird just don't understand that most people watch tv to be entertained not to look at their liberal PC BS. If people want that there's the news shows for that.
