The sci-fi thriller will not return for Season 2.
October 30, 2020
It is being reported that Fox has cancelled neXt. The sad news comes just three episodes into the sci-fi thriller's run, though the move does not come as a complete surprise.
The show was originally targeted for a summer run but was moved to October to help shore up the network's Fall lineup, which was affected by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Soft ratings through its first few weeks sealed its fate, as it was averaging just a 0.3 in its 9:00pm time slot among adults 18-49.
neXt follows a Silicon Valley pioneer who discovers that the powerful artificial intelligence he created has gone rogue, and realizes it could lead to a global catastrophe. Teaming up with a cybercrime agent, the two begin a fight against an enemy unlike anything ever seen.
Fox is expected to air all of the show's remaining seven episodes in their regular time slot beginning Tuesday, November 17.

Parts I liked and parts I disliked. One major flaw is the same that Limitless had: very average writers have to be thinking like they are the smartest person, or machine, to ever exist, and they are just not up to such a difficult task. In fairness, I'm not sure anyone would be.

Just figures that they'd cancel a show that actually makes people think about things. The networks want unthinking people to be their sheep so they can be controlled. This show fought against that and encouraged thinking about all the possible threats out there and how to try to protect yourself. Just glad they're airing the rest of the episodes. Hopefully they'll get to tie it up rather than leaving a cliffhanger that leaves too much unanswered.

It had promise but with only two or three episodes aired we never knew where it was going.
There have been many of these AI gone wild stories ("Person of Interest", "Star Trek Discovery", etc.) but they've all had the same take. I was hoping this one could do something different. Now we'll never know.

It was so basic and blah. I really wanted it to be good.

Wait, I thought it was an event series, meaning only one season?

Waited for the other boot to drop, and sure enough. Glad to see this was cancelled.

I liked the show. The premise was a little dark but it was different than most of what's on TV. John Slattery was a little over the top with his apathetic hero (I know it doesn't make sense, but go with me).

One more network failure. Premature rejaculation.
