The CW announced today that Stargirl has been picked up for a third season. The renewal is an early one, as the superhero drama doesn't begin is sophomore run until August.
Beginning in Season 2, the series will air first on The CW. In its debut outing last year, new episodes premiered on the DC Universe streaming service before airing on network TV the following day. Now, episodes will release on HBO Max after their linear run.
Based on the DC Comics superhero, Stargirl follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore, who moves to Blue Valley, Nebraska after her mother remarries. After discovering a powerful cosmic staff, Courtney becomes Stargirl and goes on to inspire a group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past.
Season 2 of Stargirl premieres on Tuesday, August 10. Look for Season 3 in 2022.

This is a big gamble, considering all we've seen are the edgier episodes made for the DC Universe streaming network. You have to think the CW episodes will be a lot more saccharine and bland. I can't really tell the CW DC superhero shows apart these days.
But that first season was definitely a cut above standard network superhero fare, and thoroughly enjoyable.

Such a good show! I love the golden age d.c superheroes redone as characters from the 1980s? ( Not sure of the decade as it is a parallel universe storyline) they die and , then are redone as teens. One of my fave shows. It is pure fun.

Really enjoyed the first season. I give The CW credit for keeping most of their dramas on the air for multiple seasons. Glad to know Stargirl will be on until 2022 at least.
