ABC's new comedy has its freshman run topped up.
October 26, 2021
ABC announced today that The Wonder Years has been picked up for a full season. The order adds nine episodes to the comedy's first season, bringing its total to 22. Since its September premiere, the show has garnered solid viewership that sees it tied with 'The Conners' as the network's top comedy of the season among adults 18-49.
Inspired by the 1988 series of the same name, The Wonder Years is a coming-of-age story that takes a look back in time at a Black middle-class family in 1960s Montgomery, Alabama, from the point of view of an imaginative 12-year-old named Dean. Narrated by his grown-up self with the wisdom of his adult years, Dean reflects on some of the best years of his life with his family during a turbulent time.

The show is alright. I don't think it needed to be advertised as a reboot of an old show. They could have called it anything. What was the point?
@Mike lol get a grip man! if someone saying "they'd yell racism if canceled" gets you on the racist straight white person rant, you need take a break from cnn... buddy.
Huh?

@Tom... the original was set in the 1980s.. the new version is set in the 1960s (Presumably because that was a far more important decade for black Americans.)

It's okay. I'll be fine as long as I have "Young Sheldon".

That show Rel also got cancelled last year. Black shows are not without their cancellations if the ratings don't warrant a renewal. People need to cut the crap with the racist comments. It makes the rest of us look bad. Clearly the show is doing well and that is why it got renewed. The network execs don't care about anything except making money. They aren't worried about canceling any show if it isn't cutting the mustard. This show clearly is doing so, at least up until this point in time.
I also am confused about the name though, they could have called it something else, and if it is that good, it will succeed.

Glad they kept it the exact same years and made the family the same middle class as the original. They really only changed location and a few other things. It is close enough to use the name. The real question is did they need to?
Huh?

It's okay.. it's not nearly as bad as that Home Ec sitcom.... However, I honestly don't know why they used the same name for the show. It's not set anywhere near the same time period as the original.... and there's clearly a different socio-economic position for the family. The name, seems to me, to be used in order to get people to watch it when it started, thinking they'd see new episodes of the original.

Y’all have to leave the racist comments off this site. Every time there’s a non-white show, you lose your minds and make yourselves look dumb.

Amazing show. Glad to see a successful Dule Hill vehicle.

This site has a surprising amount of racists and bigots. Anything other than a traditional straight white show gets crapped on by the dying demographic.
Lashing out because you’re getting left in the past.
