The animated comedy scores an early pickup.
January 18, 2022
Paramount+ announced today that Star Trek: Lower Decks has been picked up for a fourth season. The pickup is another early one for the animated series, coming well ahead of its Season 3 run, which is slated for sometime this summer.
The series, which premiered with a two-season order last year on CBS All Access, is the first animated entry in the franchise in over 40 years; the only other being 1973's 'Star Trek: The Animated Series'. Critics have generally enjoyed the show, noting its comedic approach offers a fun, albeit safe, take on the Star Trek universe.
Star Trek: Lower Decks follows the U.S.S. Cerritos, one of Starfleet's least important ships. Residing in its lower decks are the support crew who strive to keep up with their duties and their social lives while the ship is being hit by any number of anomalies.

Great show. It's amazing how many references to scenes from all the Star Trek universe of series they can pack into each sentence.
