It is being reported that American Rust has been cancelled by Showtime after one season. The news comes less than two months after the drama wrapped its 9-episode freshman run, which ultimately garnered a mixed reception.

Based on Philipp Meyer's hit debut novel, the series follows a complicated and compromised police chief in a Pennsylvania Rust Belt town full of good people who can make bad choices. When the son of the woman he loves is accused of murder, he must choose how far he is willing to go to protect him.
