NBC announced today that Law & Order has been picked up for Season 22. The news comes with two episodes remaining in the show's 21st season, which returned earlier this year after being off the air since its original iteration was canceled in 2010.

The flagship series premiered in 1990, going on to air 456 episodes across 20 seasons. It became known for following a two-part format, with the first portion of each episode focused on the investigation of a crime, and the second portion detailing its prosecution. The show has spawned a total of six spin-offs, two of which are currently on the air.

Season 21 of Law & Order premiered as a midseason entry with a 10-episode run that was its shortest to-date. It is unclear if the show will keep the same episode count and midseason scheduling when it returns for the 2022-2023 season.
