No Season 2 for the sci-fi drama.
July 5, 2022
It is being reported by Deadline that Prime Video has cancelled Night Sky after just one season. The news comes six weeks after the sci-fi drama released its 8-episode freshman run.
The series garnered generally positive reviews upon its premiere in May. While the streaming service does not release viewership data, the show likely fell short of expectations on that front, leading to the quick cancellation.
Night Sky stars Sissy Spacek and J.K. Simmons as Irene and Franklin York, an aging couple who discovered a chamber buried in their backyard years ago that leads to a mysterious, deserted planet. They have always kept this secret to themselves... until now. When an enigmatic young man enters the picture, the Yorks' quiet life is turned upside down, as they come to learn that the mystifying chamber they thought they knew so well turns out to be more than they ever could have imagined.

I was tempted to watch it, but I checked the online buzz and the general sentiment was this it has a unique concept but the pace is ridiculously slow. Put me off it. Look, harsh reality is that these days no one has time for slow contemplative stuff. People want excitement and fast pace with a sense of adventure and expansive world building. At least Amazon tried, No one else would have touched it with a ten foot pole.

If these networks are going to possibly cancel a show after one season, they should make to final episodes. One for leading into the next season, and one with a definite ending. Enjoyed Night Sky. Is there a book to read and find out how it continues and ends?

This show was unique. I loved it. I am upset that it was cancelled and not given a chance to evolve.
It left alot to the imagination, yes it dragged in a few places but to me it added to the intrigue. I would have loved to see where it would have gone.

Extremely slow paced, but still worth watching , but you need to provide answers with some regularity. Now the show "from " on epix , has enough monsters in it to make the slow answers worth the time to watch it.

This was an excellent show. loved the premise, the plot, and the actors. So disappointed in Amazon for cancelling a good series, and keeping the crap.

Thank you for cancelling it. It was a complete waste of time. Too plodding of a pace

You couldn't give this a chance?? It had potential. It was a little slow at the beginning, but it picked up. I really wanted to see what that village they stumbled upon was like--are they aliens who live there? Did they kill the neighbor? Disappointed.

This was a good show although it moved at an extremely slow pace. The ending left us on a cliffhanger, as these shows almost always do.
