The CG-animated series has had its renewal reversed.
June 23, 2023
Star Trek: Prodigy will no longer be coming back for a second season on Paramount+. The streaming service has walked back the renewal it gave the CG-animated series in late 2021. The show wrapped its 20-episode freshman run this past December and was set to return later this year.
The show will be removed completely from the platform shortly as part of write-downs on content in order to cut costs. All may not be lost though, as executive producer Aaron Waltke took to Twitter to state that Season 2 will still be completed on schedule, as Paramount plans to shop the show to other networks.
Star Trek: Prodigy follows a group of six young alien outcasts who must figure out how to work together while navigating towards the Alpha Quadrant in search of a better future. This motley crew know nothing about the ship they have commandeered, but their adventures will introduce them to Starfleet and the ideals it represents.

I never watched this show but I have to make a comment on yet another streaming service pulling content off the service, either as a write-down or to shop it elsewhere.
This is one of those shows that was on my list of shows I planned to watch one day as soon as my viewing schedule opened up. The Star Trek franchise is a big reason why I subscribe to Paramount+ and this just makes me question why I should continue to subscribe.
Originally streaming was touted as having content forever available for you to watch any time you wanted to. It costs next to nothing to store a program on the servers even if nobody watches it. But it turns out that was just another empty promise by corporations. Disgusting.

That is disappointing and hopefully it gets picked up somewhere (where I already subscribe).

Only started watching because of the reprisal from Kate Mulgrew, but have really enjoyed the show. Seemed to get better and better as the season progressed. I do hope they find a new home!

So they completed making Season 2, but not only are they not going to air it, but they are pulling Season 1 from the service in 5 days? I just subscribed to Paramont to catch up on all the Treks, but im guessing now that was a poor decision...
