The cancelled CG-animated series finds a new home.
October 11, 2023
It was announced today that Star Trek: Prodigy has been picked up by Netflix after it was cancelled by Paramount+ back in June. The CG-animated series had already been renewed for a second season but Paramount+ reversed its decision as part of write-downs on content in order to cut costs.
Executive producer Aaron Waltke took to Twitter this morning to share his excitement that the show has found a new home, stating that "the possibilities are endless now that the world can see all 40 episodes of Prodigy's first and second seasons in one place - which our passionate cast and crew have worked so tirelessly on - with the potential for more as we boldly go and seek out this new horizon."
Star Trek: Prodigy follows a group of six young alien outcasts who must figure out how to work together while navigating towards the Alpha Quadrant in search of a better future. This motley crew know nothing about the ship they have commandeered, but their adventures will introduce them to Starfleet and the ideals it represents.
Season 1 will debut on Netflix later this year, with the second season slated to release in 2024.

Fun show. Good job Netflix!!!!! HBOMAX and Paramount+ only care about the mighty dollar and not the subscribers. I canceled Paramount+. Do not miss it.

I accidentally started watching this after Picard and i have to say i ended up really enjoying it. Its not going to win any awards, but it has all the feel of a classic Saturday morning cartoon-meets-Trek. I will say though that this whole "Starfleet turning on itself" has quickly become a trope with Paramount, i hope S2 has a more original plot line.
