No Season 3 for the acclaimed comedy.
January 9, 2024
It is being reported that Our Flag Means Death has been cancelled by Max after two seasons. The news comes less than three months after the period comedy wrapped its 8-episode sophomore run.
"While Max will not be moving forward with a third season of Our Flag Means Death, we are so proud of the joyous, hilarious, and heartfelt stories that creator David Jenkins, Taika Waititi, Rhys Darby, Garrett Basch, Dan Halsted, Adam Stein, Antoine Douaihy, and the entire superb cast and crew brought to life," a spokesperson for the streamer said in a statement. "We also thank the dedicated fans who embraced these stories and built a gorgeous, inclusive community surrounding the show."
The half-hour series follows an 18th century aristocrat who trades in his comfortable life for one of a buccaneer. As the captain of a pirate ship, he struggles to earn the respect of his potentially mutinous crew. But his fortunes change after a fateful run-in with the infamous Captain Blackbeard.

@Mike Just because that's where your mind goes when you think about being on a boat with a bunch of dudes, does not mean that any straight men would feel that way.

Shoutout to the people that don’t think pirates were gay. Ships full of guys out on the ocean for weeks at a time. No there’s no way they’re out there banging each other lol.
Get a clue.

Season one was great. Season two fell short. Glad season two ended on a positive note.

Taika Waititi comes up with good ideas and they quickly devolve into a mess. I barely made it through the first season, and didn't bother with season 2.

Season 1 was terrific. Season 2 was still good, but it fell a bit short. I agree that they really leaned into fluid / gay sexuality, and focusing on a handful of characters' relationships rather than two or so from season 1 took something away from the humor, spending less time being funny. Both seasons were quirky good fun, but I only highly recommend season 1

I haven’t had the chance to watch season 2, but I loved season 1. It needs to be said every time exactly how awful WBD has gotten about canceling shows. The team in charge there is trash, starting with Zaslav.

I liked season 1 but it kind of went off the rails in season 2.They seem to want to showcase the gay stuff instead of telling a good story.

It was okay.. but got a bit too gay for season 2.. almost every single relationship was a gay relationship.. Having the 2 captains smitten was good... but when every single character is suddenly gay... come on. Good riddence.
