No Season 2 for the midseason comedy.
May 7, 2024
It is being reported that Extended Family has been cancelled by NBC after one season. The news comes less than two months after the comedy wrapped its 13-episode freshman run, which ultimately garnered a lukewarm reception from critics and viewers.
The half-hour series followed amicably divorced couple Jim and Julia, who decide to keep raising their kids at the family home while taking turns on who stays with them. Navigating the waters of divorce and child-sharing gets increasingly complicated for Jim when Trey, the owner of his favorite sports team, enters Julia's life and wins her heart.

Luis,
You spotted something very correct. God call.
They had no chemistry.
It was each different set of actors, temporarley highlighted, spitballing fun, words or jokes at each other.
Looking backThese were actors, running scripts, under a lens, and you are correct. All the interactions did not actually line up.
act, re-act.
word smarty, smarty response.
sub chance- spare response to smarty response?
I am glad they closed it before they ruined all six actors reputations. ( the sixth guy was the irish dad in the bar.)

It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. For some reason Cryer and Faison just never meshed well. The best actor was Abigail Spencer who held the series together. But the kids had no personality and the entire cast just never became an ensemble.

Glad it got cancelled. Bad show it tried to be like a a modern family rip off! It was on funny the cat did not have any chemistry. NBC got it right with the show being canceled in the right show got picked up for a third season.

I watched the 1st 3 episodes because I'm a John Cryer fan, but there were and are so many problems with TV today.
1. They had so many DEI shows on that many stopped watching network TV
2. And when there is a decent sitcom they are surrounded by so many junk shows.
3. The writers and actors want too much money and renewing series with potential just doesn't happen anymore. The days of early bad rated shows like Seinfeld and Cheers are gone.
4. Way to politically correct that smart views know how the writers set up situations is preposterous.
The American Family sitcom is currently dead.
Until these networks allow writers to write about real situations it won't work.
5. All my children, niece and nephews, not 1 watch a TV show on network TV.

I was planning on watching this at some point as a fan of the leads (and as a Boston Celtics fan), but now there’s no point. I had heard mostly good things and I was really hoping Cryer and Faison could get a winner here. I’m not as familiar with Abigail Spencer, but I’m sure she’s fine.
I’m glad K is getting rightfully ripped for their silly comment too.

Thanks for jumping in there I Swear.
Thankfully I have finally just had enough of scripted situational comedies and am avoiding a bunch of upcoming shows. However, this one was cute and attempted thought behind it.
And i figured in season two, the youngest male would reveal a learning disability. Checking one of the boxes so K can shut up.
K does have a point, scripted Lopez was garbage, but his vitriol should not just carry over on this almost attempt at a show.

I really wanted to like this show. I tried several times to watch but it was just awful and I am not surprised that it got canceled.

K, are you kidding? It was a blended family with a Black stepdad all living in the same condo, and it was more than implied that Jon Cryer's character found the Donald Faison character attractive. How does that not hit all the supposed "woke" category you and others are usually crying onto your Carrhart vests about?
Just say be open about what you hate and stop hiding behind euphemisms. It's more honest.

I try not to hate on others' tastes, but how did anyone watch this? I watched the pilot and wanted to defenestrate the Cryer character the entire time. It was awful. I never looked back.
I know the whole point is he's annoying--it's just *not funny*.
Most deserved cancelation this year, imo.
