Netflix announced today that Outer Banks has been renewed for a fifth and final season. Coming just days before the adventure drama returns for Part 2 of Season 4, the news was accompanied by a letter from creators to the fans, reflecting on their 7-year journey working on the show.
"Now, with a little sadness, but also excitement, we're putting Season Four behind us, and are turning to Season Five, in which we hope to bring our beloved Pogues home in the way we imagined and planned years ago," wrote Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke to conclude the letter. "Season Five will be our last season, and we think it will be our best yet. We hope you'll join us for one more paddle out to the surf break."
Set in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, the series follows a close group of local teenage friends known as the Pogues. After a hurricane shuts off the power during the summer season, it sparks numerous illicit events in its wake. There is a search for group leader's missing father, a high-stakes treasure hunt for gold, forbidden relationships, and an escalating conflict between the Pogues and their rivals that results in life-changing decisions.
