The contestants are grouped into teams, with each team being assigned a personal trainer. These trainers design workout and nutrition plans, but it is up to the contestants on how much or little of the plan to follow.
Each season starts with a weigh-in to determine their starting weights, and another weigh-in at the end of the week determines which team has lost the most weight for that week, in percentage of total weight lost. The losing team must then vote off one member.
When the number of contestants has shrunk to a predetermined smaller number, the teams are dissolved.
By the time I got into watching this show, I didn't need to lose weight, but the stories and watching all the transformations has motivated me to start working toward getting certified as a personal trainer. (Thanks Jillian, Bob, & Dolvett!)
