A sci-fi drama set in a border town on Earth in 2046.
In the year 2046, Earth has changed. There are now a multitude of alien races living on the planet, and the landscape has been terraformed beyond recognition. In the border town of Defiance - formerly St. Louis - events start to occur that threaten the fragile peace this town and its residents have fought for.

I wasn't into this show at first, saw it as a silly dumb show with bad cheap effects. But once I ignored all the effects and just watched it, it's a pretty damn good show. It just doesn't have this big budget like a movie of this sort of thing would. It feels like a movie but it being a TV series you get more details rather than just the quick kill up blow up kind of plots. It's a very enjoyable show and I will be sure to stay tuned.

I am a GREAT fanatic of Battlestar Galactica, and at last i could say that i found a series that i could bond with the characters!
Please continue the show, and give us good stories with fine character backrounds.
I hope i will get to see season 2 soon.
Thank you so much for your time.

At first it felt like a mashup of Eureka, Firefly, and Mad Max.
I liked it alright, but I'm not sure I like where it's going. There was no need to have irisa be the next messiah or have some super huge grandiose plot so fast in my opinion. Firefly is beloved by many and it was just the misadventures of a lovable crew of space pirates with only hints of more to come. I was kind of hoping they would draw from that.
The problem with huge overarching plots is they become very messy to keep cohesive and interesting as the show goes on.
Unless you have a set run time and a detailed series road map drawn up before the pilot even airs a la Babylon 5, you wind up with the new Battlestar Galactica. Lots of promises of greater things that end with the definitive impression the writers never really knew where they were going to begin with. Eureka actually had that problem too, the big bad plot mcguffin from season 1 never resulted in anything and was basically dropped

I really like the show, mostly because I'm scifi starved. But when it came to the final episodes of season 1 I got strong vibes of Andromeda. Please don't make their mistake and start of with some grand plot which never results into anything and then start totally new plots for no good reason!

I really wish someone would actually write something decent ... all these subplots drive me nuts ... going on forever with no end ...
I like a bit of resolution and there seems to be none ... just hopeless struggle that apparently will go on forever.

I started out liking this show, but with each episode I like it less and less. I have been trying to figure out why and I think it's because none of the characters is particularly likable. I can't identify with any of them. I guess I am just tired of watching shows where all the characters are morally bankrupt.

I really want to like this show more than I do. I think because im craving a new sci fi story I watch this show and tend to overlook some of the problems I have with it. It really feels as if it had the potential to be a really awesome show. However like someone else mentioned, your just thrown into a cauldron of a new earth, new creatures, and new humonoids, without any explanation other than its been "terraformed". I hope it dosent get canceled however because as its gone on I have warmed up to it more and more. I guess we'll see.

I think Berkey nailed it.

So.. its a CSI of the future. Yawn.. Hey! Were did all the Battle Star Galactic and Caprica writers go? The show needs to be a bit darker and less sit-com. Needs some real Science Fiction vibe.. vs. CSI: New York.. more Bladerunner less Body of Proof more Skynet, less Apple Store....etc.
