I never watched the office so my opinion is not based on loyalty. But I like this show, it is different and quirky and intelligent. I like the fact that the leading man has flaws. This is a lot more like reality TV than the so called reality shows.

Get rid of the gay guy and you have a winner.

OMG! This is one of my favorite shows!!!!It's like Dr. House became a homicide detective! He's such an ass and you LOVE him that way!

Everyone should watch this series, and LIKE it- for one simple reason. Rainn Wilson. Backstrom- the show- is light-hearted, always funny, and just plain good dependable TV entertainment. Rainn Wilson could be funny in any part that's written for him, but Backstrom brings an interesting but still "comfortable" new character out of him. Kind of like he's the old Dwight from the office that we all know and love... but not even close. This is a show that I really enjoy, and look forward to every week. I sincerely hope that it lasts for at least 6 or 7 seasons.

Reluctantly, I watched the first episode. I say "reluctantly" because I am tired of the huge number of detective/criminal investigation shows already. Wanting to see Rainn Wilson again is why I watched. It's been amusing, enjoyable, and just different enough to make it interesting. I'll keep watching to see how things develop.

This show has gone over well for me so far. It's great to see Rainn Wilson back on the small screen after a successful run on "The Office". It is definitely different than any other crime procedurals on the air today. Everett Backstrom reminds me of Kurt Wallander, another detective who lived a hard life while solving crimes. For those of you reading who do not know, a few years back, there was a adaptation of the Wallander books that aired on PBS starring Kenneth Branagh as the title character.

I like it so far ... this type of, unoriginal show, could go belly up very fast if the writers aren't very careful. The unshaven boozer lead is gonna be difficult to sell if not properly developed. I'll be watching, good luck ...

There's a whole list of shows with scruffy, morally-suspect anti-heroes like Californication, Call Me Fritz, Shameless, etc. Backstrom joins the group.
The pilot showed a few entertaining byplays between the odd collection of characters, but other than that, nothing special.
Half-shaven boozers just don't appeal to me, (House and Elementary excepted).
