Hattie is a Los Angeles screenwriter who is down on her luck. But when a powerful writer and producer gives her the opportunity to work as an assistant on her show, she's able to work on finding her voice as a writer and her quest to find the right girl.
After Hattie is evicted, she is taken in by Marie and her husband Chuck, but the new living situation just adds more complications in their not-so-perfect relationship. At work, Marie is dealing with a rivalry against the only other Black film executive for a promotion.
Their friend Nia is a former successful child performer how has become a yoga instructor, but wants to get back into acting.
While they each live separate lives, the girls all lean on each other for support and guidance as they navigate their twenties.
