It's now 12/23/24 and I've given this a rating of 5, but do agree with Jai T's comments on the daughter character. From here, we'll have to see how the remaining few S1 episodes play out and if a S2 will be forthcoming/wanted/needed.
Yellowstone is done. Lioness is done with S2. I'm now looking forward to 1923's S2.

After my 3 episode trial run that I do with any new show, Landman gets a 4/5 for me. I like the show, it definitely has potential to be great. But I must deduct 1 star for main character Tommy's daughter. I feel like Sheridan is trying too hard to have a "Beth Dutton Jr." in this show. It is completely unrealistic that a 17 year old daughter would say all of the outlandish things his daughter said to him and walking around in her underwear in front of her dad and his roommates. Those scenes could have been left out and the show would be just fine. I'm all for shock value, but there are other ways to portray a teenage girl with mommy and daddy issues. Other than that, Thornton is perfect for this role, so is John Hamm. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season, but can we get more character development from the female characters than the token slutty daughter and ex-wife?

11/24/24: 'just watched S1E3. So far so good. I've never studied or thought much about the economics & business of oil. It's very interesting with Thornton's many short speeches on the matter; he's so witty. Admittedly, I've got some trouble understanding the terminology being used, even more than "Cooper" the "worm" character is. Kayla Wallace (the lawyer sent in) has a great roll especially compared to her prior, When Calls the Heart, roll she had which didn't provide much/enough depth as this current character is providing.
