ABC Family has ordered 22 additional episodes of the freshman drama.
August 1, 2011
ABC Family has announced that it has picked up a full first season of Switched at Birth, ordering 22 more episodes of the freshman series. The show debuted back in June with an initial 10 episodes, and will return for the rest of its newly-ordered season in early 2012.
“Viewers have fallen in love with this show, just as we did when we first saw it,” said network president Michael Riley in a press release. “We set out this year to bring viewers more original content than ever before, all with the trademarks of our bright, authentic, quality storytelling. We’re so thrilled to see this series become a break-out hit this summer and become a key component of our programming lineup into next year.”
Switched at Birth follows two girls who find out that they were mistakenly given to the wrong parents as newborns. Since its premiere, the series has been ranking as ABC Family's Number 2 freshman season ever in total viewers and key demographics.
The show's summer finale airs Monday, August 8.

Come back.... I don't watch much TV, but I was home sick one day and started looking at shows on Netflix and started watching Switched at Birth, and couldn't stop watching the series. Also watched this last season, and can't wait for it to start up again.

This show is AMAZING!!! I haven't been in love with a show this much in a really long time! I pray they get a second season! If it doesn't get picked up again, there will be so many unanswered questions! Emmett is so wonderful and I have such a crush on him, but I can't believe what he did! Oh man, please pick up another season! :D

Omg! I watched all of season 1 in 3 days on netflix and it is AMAZING! I've been learning ASL and this helps alot. I saw only 22 episodes on season one and hoping there was no cliffhangers, but I've heard there might be a season too so I'm (somewhat) patiently waiting for it.

I'm 42 years old and started watching season 1 on Netflix. I just love it! I thought it would be too teeny bopperish for me but it's really good. I hope it doesn't get canceled any time soon. It's hard to find good 'clean' shows. Everything is reality tv and i'm tired of it.

Its so frustrating how these new shows give you like 10 episodes and then leave you hanging forever! I thought it was cancelled or something. But its really an awesome show and great for all ages. Literally my little bro loves it he's 23 I love it I'm 33 and my mom loved it who is 68 lol crazy right. Just shows yu what a quality show it is. Can't wait for the next 22 episodes whenever that is. Guess it is worth the wait.
