FOX has announced that The Simpsons has been renewed for two additional seasons, further extending the run of TV's longest-running scripted series in history. After a contract standoff between the studio and the voice cast made headlines in recent days - sparking rumors of the show's imminent cancellation - both sides have now come to terms, allowing the animated comedy to continue on for at least the next two years.

On the air since 1990, The Simpsons has made a lasting mark on pop culture, with its characters becoming arguably the most recognizable in all of television. Closing in on the 500 episode mark, the series has become a Sunday night mainstay for FOX, continuing to draw in impressive numbers of viewers after all these years.
