No back order for the new CBS drama.
November 21, 2016
It is being reported that CBS has decided against ordering any additional episodes of freshman series Pure Genius. The decision comes as no real surprise, as the medical drama has made little impact in the ratings since its late October premiere, and currently ranks as the network's lowest-rated new series of the 2016-2017 season.
Pure Genius was created by Jason Katims, known for past audience favorites Friday Night Lights and Parenthood. This latest effort, which follows a tech billionaire who creates a cutting-edge hospital to treat the rarest of medical mysteries, unfortunately did not seem to catch on with viewers the same way as his more-successful shows have.
CBS currently plans to air all 13 originally-ordered episodes of Pure Genius, leaving nine still left in its run. However with it being the network's only new series not to receive any more episodes, there appears to be little hope of it getting a second season.

Personally, I thought this show was awesome. They need more technology related shows....all these other medical shows nowadays are becoming so mundane and boring.
Hey we got a guy bleeding to death! So, stitch him up. *starts stitching* Oh no, he's going into cardiac arrest because of a brain tumor we didn't know about!! *blech

Steve S: I actually snickered out loud when I saw the Decades reference as I Just finished the pilot of Barnaby Jones from their Nov crime series. If you do find Murder One, it would be pretty tough to get into without the pilot - though it does have A Lot of intro replays. They are needed since it is one 24 episode story - which sounds horrid, but it was pretty good. A woman I came across about ten years ago told me about it when we were discussing The Practice. I'm always looking for new shows - even if they are old. I love a lot of Canadian and UK shows. Down Under shows are harder do me to find. (I told you I watch way too much tv.) I wish this site had a suggestion page.... back to the Tv.....

What TV needs in another medical drama, said NO ONE. Good riddance.

I really like the show but you folks don't really care because you always cancel most of the good ones anyway. Why don't you try moving it to a different day or different time slot instead of just canceling it.

@suzanne again - I do not remember ever having watched Murder One in 1995 - I can't remember what or how much I was watching. Should I see it airing on Decades I think I will watch one episode. Almost everything I seem to watch these days replays tidbits at the beginning as a reminder or for for intro. Funny, I don't think Pure Genius does though - it certainly doesn't need to (even if it wasn't a lame duck).

Dang it, was just telling someone today how refreshing of a change of a medical show to watch. I love its creativity and that it isn't like other medical shows that are so flowed in how they resolve. More frustrating is still how they renew shows I've never heard of. And even more so, how discouraging how I did invest the time in yet another good new show that is cancelled. Reinforcing the need to wait til a show is renewed til I watch the first episode.

I know everyone has their own opinions with tv shows, but I personally liked this show, especially compared to some of the idiotic shows they have on prime time now. Give this show a chance. There are others a lot worse. Dump those first.

I'm glad this was cancelled. I watched the first episode, and it was HORRIBLE, but I watched the second and third episodes because I thought maybe it would get better. It didn't.

Steve S: I was hoping you would answer. I've often noticed that I agree with you. I will give this a try. I have no problem ignoring an unfinished arc or just imagining my own ending as long as the episodes have individual conclusions. Thanks for the advice. As someone who watches way too much TV, I like to have a mix of episodics and continuing storylines. Just out of curiosity, have you seen Murder One from the early 90's? It is the earliest season long show that I am aware of. I really liked it, but they shouldn't have bothered with a 2nd season.
