The veteran comedy gets an early pickup for 2017-2018.
January 25, 2017
ABC announced today that The Middle has been given an early renewal for a ninth season. The veteran comedy has continued its consistent performance for the network and remains one of its strongest half-hour entries.
This season saw the show make a move to Tuesdays from its regular Wednesday night slot, where it originally helped establish a well-performing mid-week comedy block. The new night has had no ill-effects on the show's numbers, and it has actually seen a bump up in total viewership compared to this time last year. In fact, no ABC comedy has seen viewership this strong on Tuesday nights since the premiere season of Last Man Standing back in 2011.
Look for Season 9 of The Middle to premiere this fall as part of ABC's 2017-2018 lineup.

WHY????? Is this the last season of THE MIDDLE?
It's a great hit/// love all the characters! How will we find out how the family "grows up" --- married/ jobs/ maybe grandchildren. There's few sitcoms I enjoy and this is one of them. The other was Last Man Standing.... it had some political issues scattered in--both sides.... People have no back bone and get rid of shows for "personal reasons" --- and don't think other sponsors wouldn't have picked this show up!
Two great ones gone! Please at least try to keep THE MIDDLE going!!! Jump ahead 4-5 years so we can see how the "kids" turn out!!!!!! UGH !!!!

How isn't this show an Emmy winner??? Best comedic cast and writing consistently year after year. I am so hoping Axl meets up with Cassidy while in Europe-they are perfect together!!
Also love the Donahues, Bill and Paula, Reverand Tim Tom, and of course Rita Glossner!
I love all the Christmas and Halloween episodes - fabulous-well done!! This show can go twenty years no problem, plenty of storylines and the cast is outstanding- EMMY WINNING CAST -EVERY CATEGORY!â¤ï¸THE MIDDLE!!!

I'm curious why this show and cast are never nominated for an emmy. I always suspect that someone in the cast may not be following the "Hollywood lib think." This show has great writing and a lack of gratuitous sex chatter and dialogue. My favorite episodes are the ones involving Rita Glossner, played greatly by Brooke Shieds. Have some more with her and her trashy family. Love this show.

This is one of the FEW shows on tv that features a family with REALISTIC financial means for much of the actual population... no one's a doctor... or owns a company... or got rich off the internet. I love this show mostly because it's not some inflated perception of what life is like for most families. Sure it's slightly bigoted that for some reason "hollywood" thinks only the midwest lives this way..... but.. you can't solve everything.

I am so happy to see that another season will be coming up. I watch very few sitcom program. This is one I have watched from the very beginning. So nice to see a normal crazy family with normal problems that are funny, making us look at our own normal problems as funny too. Patricia Heaton ....Bravo!!!!!!!

Such a great show. So much of this is so true to life! Great writing, acting, and fun. A true way to 'escape' this troubles of life, AND no obnoxious politics.
